Winter weather advisory issued for parts of New Jersey as snow, sleet, and ice expected

MIDDLESEX, N.J. — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Middlesex, Western Monmouth, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington counties, with wintry precipitation expected to create hazardous travel conditions overnight. The advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Forecasters predict up to an inch of snow and sleet accumulation, accompanied by a light glaze of ice. Snow is expected to begin late Wednesday night, transitioning to a mix of snow and sleet after 4 a.m. before changing to rain by mid-morning Thursday. The National Weather Service warns that the combination of frozen precipitation could make roads slick, especially during the morning commute.

Thursday’s high is expected to reach 43 degrees, with precipitation gradually changing to rain by late morning as temperatures rise. Winds will shift from southeast to west later in the day. Overnight temperatures will remain above freezing, with mostly cloudy conditions persisting into Thursday night.

By Friday, conditions are forecast to improve, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 43 degrees. However, gusty west winds up to 30 mph may develop. Overnight temperatures will drop to the low 20s, bringing a return to colder conditions heading into the weekend.

Officials advise drivers to slow down and allow extra travel time Thursday morning. Road conditions can be monitored by calling 511 for real-time updates.
