Woman surrenders after man critically wounded in West Chelten Avenue shooting

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – A man was rushed into surgery Friday evening after being shot in the arm during a confrontation on West Chelten Avenue in the city’s 39th Police District, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 6:46 p.m. on January 30 in the 200 block of West Chelten Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene found an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Police transported him to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was listed in critical condition.

Investigators secured a crime scene stretching across multiple blocks as they collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. According to officials, the incident prompted an immediate investigation by the department’s Shooting Investigation Group.

Later that night, a woman came forward to Police Headquarters and voluntarily surrendered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting. She was taken into custody without incident, and the weapon was recovered.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved as the investigation remains active. Police said updates will be provided once additional information becomes available.
