WOODSTOCK, VA — Kayten Stroop received a Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle ticket as a Christmas gift from her boyfriend’s mother, and it turned out to be a $100,000 winner. Stroop discovered the exciting news when she checked her ticket after the winning numbers were announced on New Year’s Day.
The lucky ticket, #217055, was purchased at the Food Lion on South Main Street in Woodstock. Stroop’s ticket was one of seven $100,000 winners in the New Year’s Day Raffle. Other winning tickets were sold in Amelia, Charlottesville, Marshall, Midlothian, Tazewell, and Yorktown. Additionally, five $1 million top-prize tickets were purchased in Ashburn, Fishersville, Henrico, Herndon, and Moneta, while 1,000 other tickets each earned $500 prizes.
As a high school teacher, Stroop said she doesn’t have immediate plans for her winnings. Virginia Lottery profits benefit K-12 education, with Shenandoah County receiving over $5.1 million in Lottery funds last year. Statewide, the Lottery contributed more than $934 million to education in Fiscal Year 2024, accounting for approximately 10 percent of the state’s K-12 school budget.
