YONKERS, NY – The Yonkers Police Department has successfully apprehended a man in connection to a deadly hit-and-run accident that unfolded in the early hours of Monday, April 8. Authorities were alerted to an injured person on Buena Vista Avenue, where they discovered 35-year-old Fateema Respress unconscious. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, Respress was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Investigations by the Yonkers Police Major Case Squad and other specialized units led to the discovery that Respress had fallen in the roadway before being struck by a black SUV, which then left the scene. The vehicle and its driver, Geneby Clase of Yonkers, were located later that day. Clase has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death.

Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza commended the investigative teams for their dedication and reiterated the department’s commitment to seeking justice for victims of all crimes.
