Gunshots in the night lead to deadly Georgia Avenue killing in DC

Washington, DC — The sound of gunfire in Northwest D.C. led officers to a deadly scene after a man was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The incident unfolded around 2:39 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest. Officers in the area reported hearing gunshots moments before the victim was transported by a private vehicle to a nearby hospital.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim did not survive.

Authorities identified him as 24-year-old Demarco Lyles of Northwest, D.C.

No suspect information has been released as investigators continue working to determine what led to the shooting.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact (202) 727-9099 or submit tips via text to 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
