Young man rushed to hospital dies after DC shooting

Gunshots in the night lead to deadly Georgia Avenue killing in DC

Washington, DC — The sound of gunfire in Northwest D.C. led officers to a deadly scene after a man was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The incident unfolded around 2:39 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest. Officers in the area reported hearing gunshots moments before the victim was transported by a private vehicle to a nearby hospital.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim did not survive.

Authorities identified him as 24-year-old Demarco Lyles of Northwest, D.C.

No suspect information has been released as investigators continue working to determine what led to the shooting.
