Man fatally stabbed on Morris Road in Southeast DC dies after emergency response

Washington, DC – Monday — A 21-year-old man was rushed to a local hospital Saturday night after a violent stabbing on Morris Road in Southeast DC, but despite efforts by medical crews, he later died from his injuries, prompting a homicide investigation now underway in the District.

Emergency crews responded around 8:35 p.m. to a call for medical assistance in the 1300 block of Morris Road SE. The victim, identified as Contee Cross of Southeast, DC, was found conscious and breathing with an upper body injury. Paramedics transported him to a hospital, where it was later confirmed that he had been stabbed.

Seventh District officers were called in after medical staff determined the nature of the injury. Life-saving procedures were performed, but Cross was ultimately pronounced dead.

Officials have not yet released details on a potential suspect or motive, and no arrests have been made as of Monday. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to call (202) 727-9099 or anonymously text tips to 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The Morris Road block where the incident took place was briefly closed Saturday night as crime scene technicians processed the area and canvassed for witnesses or surveillance footage.

Cross is the latest homicide victim in a wave of fatal stabbings that have struck parts of the District in recent weeks. Officials have not confirmed whether the killing is believed to be random or targeted.
