BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Police are searching for a suspect who snatched a cellphone from a woman aboard a subway train in Bushwick in the early morning hours of May 26.
The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. as a 21-year-old woman was riding a southbound L train at the Jefferson Street subway station. According to police, an unidentified man approached the victim and grabbed her cellphone from her hands just as the train doors were closing.
The suspect then fled the station on foot in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.
The individual is described as a male with a dark complexion. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white baseball cap, a white shirt, white shorts, and black sneakers.
Police have not released surveillance footage or additional identifying details about the suspect.
Investigation ongoing in subway phone snatching
The NYPD continues to investigate the theft and is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
There is no indication that the victim and suspect knew each other, and the theft appears to have been a random, opportunistic act.
Transit crime units are reviewing MTA video from the platform and train for leads.
