Maryland deputies respond to car break ins involving children
Bel Air, MD — Two children caught attempting to break into and steal vehicles at a Maryland apartment complex were taken into custody by deputies, but faced no criminal charges due to their age.
The incident occurred Monday at approximately 10:30 a.m. near Bel Air, where patrol deputies responded to a report of two individuals attempting to break into cars.
Upon arrival, deputies located two suspects matching the descriptions provided by a 911 caller. Authorities said the pair admitted they were trying to steal a car so they could drive around.
Investigators found two damaged vehicles at the scene, including one with a broken window and damaged steering column and another with a damaged door handle.
Deputies also recovered tools including screwdrivers and a USB cable, items commonly associated with vehicle theft methods.
Officials confirmed the suspects were 11-year-old twins. Due to current juvenile laws, they were not charged and were released to a parent.
Authorities noted the same individuals had been involved in a similar incident in another jurisdiction two years earlier.
Vehicle owners affected by the incident were left to pursue insurance claims for the damage.
