Three juveniles arrested in armed robbery shooting attempt in Northeast DC
WASHINGTON, DC — Three teenage boys, including two from Northeast DC and one from Maryland, have been arrested in connection with a July shooting that left a man wounded in an attempted armed robbery, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The shooting occurred on the evening of July 29 around 8:28 p.m. in the 3700 block of Hayes Street, Northeast. Officers from the Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire and found an adult male victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was conscious and breathing when police arrived.
The victim told officers he had been approached by two suspects, one of whom pulled a gun and demanded his property. Before the victim could comply, the suspect fired a shot. Both individuals then fled the scene without taking anything. Further investigation by detectives revealed the presence of a third suspect involved in the attempted robbery.
Nearly a month later, on August 27 at approximately 9 p.m., Sixth District officers on patrol in the 3500 block of Jay Street, Northeast spotted three individuals wanted in connection with the incident.
All three — a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old from Northeast, and a 14-year-old from Suitland, Maryland — were taken into custody under DC Superior Court orders. They have been charged with Assault with Intent to Rob While Armed.
Due to their ages, the names of the suspects have not been released. The case remains under investigation.
