13-year-old boy found fatally shot inside Northeast DC home

A 13-year-old boy was found with a fatal gunshot wound after officers responded to a report of a person down, launching a homicide investigation in Northeast DC.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 13-year-old boy was found fatally shot Saturday night, and detectives determined the shooting occurred inside a home in Northeast DC, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 8:24 p.m. July 11 to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast DC, for a report of a man down.

When officers arrived, they found a juvenile male on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead after finding no signs consistent with life.

Investigators later determined the shooting occurred inside a home in the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast DC.

The victim was identified as 13-year-old Ahmad Mims, of Northeast DC.

The homicide remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
