Armed robbery suspects caught before they could escape in Southeast DC

A street robbery ended almost as quickly as it began after responding officers arrested two armed suspects before they could flee, according to police.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two men were arrested moments after an armed robbery in Southeast DC on Friday night, and one of the suspects has also been charged in connection with a separate armed robbery from last year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on July 10 in the 3000 block of Stanton Road, Southeast DC.

According to police, two suspects approached multiple victims, displayed firearms and demanded money. Investigators said the suspects took money from one of the victims.

Before the suspects could flee, responding officers apprehended both men at the scene.

Police identified the suspects as 22-year-old Jonathan Johnson, of Northeast DC, and 24-year-old Laron Plowden, of Southeast DC.

Both men were arrested and charged with armed robbery while armed with a gun.

In addition, police charged Plowden in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on July 3, 2025, inside a residence in the 1200 block of 7th Street, Northwest DC.

According to investigators, multiple suspects entered the residence, displayed firearms and demanded money and property before fleeing with the victim’s belongings.

That investigation remains ongoing.
