Manhattan duo cashes in on $1M Powerball second prize with winning grocery ticket
NEW YORK, NY — Two Manhattan residents have officially claimed a $1,000,000 second-place Powerball prize after matching all five white ball numbers in the September 29 drawing — falling just one number short of the jackpot.
Dilson Zamora and Stacey Callan, both from Manhattan, split the prize evenly after opting for a one-time lump sum payout. Each received $306,120 after required tax withholdings, according to the New York Lottery.
The winning numbers drawn that night were: 01, 03, 27, 60, 65 and Powerball 16. The ticket was sold at East Side Grocery, located at 1422 2nd Avenue on the Upper East Side.
Although the pair did not match the red Powerball number needed to win the full jackpot, the second prize of $1 million is the highest available without hitting all six numbers.
The win comes as part of a broader surge in lottery activity across the state. According to the New York Lottery, Powerball generated over $327 million in sales during the 2024–2025 fiscal year, contributing to the more than $1.4 billion in education funding distributed to public schools in New York City and the surrounding boroughs.
Zamora and Callan’s claim adds their names to a growing list of city residents scoring seven-figure prizes through New York’s lottery system.
