NEW YORK — In a touching tribute, the New York State Police honored a young man’s passion for aviation and his aspirations of serving as a State Trooper. On October 11, 2023, Major Robert Appleton of SP Aviation presented the Stagliano Family with a commemorative plaque in memory of their son, Matthew.

Matthew Stagliano, who tragically passed away in 2015 at just 16 years old, had a profound passion for aviation. He not only served as a Flight Commander for his Civil Air Patrol Squadron but also harbored dreams of joining the New York State Police.

The ceremony was also attended by Captain Christopher Munz and Sergeant Station Commander Daryl Haberneck. In a heartfelt gesture, Sergeant Haberneck gifted the family with an aviator name tag bearing Matthew’s name, further immortalizing his love for the skies and his dream of serving the community.
