WASHINGTON, D.C. – Brandon Craig Fellows, a 29-year-old chimney repairman from New York, has been sentenced to 42 months in prison following his participation in the January 6 Capitol riots. During the events, Fellows smoked marijuana in the office of Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and later glorified the violence of the day.
Fellows faced conviction in August for obstruction of an official proceeding, a felony charge, along with several misdemeanors that included trespassing and disorderly conduct. The sentence, delivered this week, also encompasses five months for a contempt of court charge, as Fellows chose to represent himself during the proceedings.
U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden, appointed by Donald Trump, criticized Fellows for showing an “utter lack of remorse” during his sentencing hearing on Thursday. The sentence marks a significant legal repercussion for one of the many individuals involved in the Capitol riots.
