Police Officer Injured in Crash While Responding to D.C. Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – An officer was involved in a vehicle crash while en route to a shooting incident in Southeast D.C., which occurred Sunday evening. The Metropolitan Police Department reported the crash happened as the officer was responding to a shooting that left four people injured on Minnesota Avenue Southeast.

The shooting took place around 6:12 p.m., where police found two men with gunshot wounds, both of whom were conscious and breathing. Additionally, two other victims—a man and a teenage girl—were later located at local hospitals, also being treated for gunshot injuries.

In response to the shooting, an area spanning from the 2200 to 2400 blocks of Minnesota Avenue SE was closed in both directions between Naylor Road and Pennsylvania Avenue SE to facilitate the investigation. The officer involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries, adding to the toll of a violent evening. The MPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding both the shooting and the crash.
