Deputy Mounts Rescue Effort for Injured Osprey in Stafford County

by Breaking Local News Report

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA—A weekend incident at Aquia Landing resulted in a dramatic rescue of an injured osprey, named Osprey Osbourne, by local law enforcement and wildlife officials.

Last weekend, the osprey, now named “Osbourne” suffered a severe injury when a fishing line became entangled around his leg, causing a deep cut. Fortunately, the osprey was able to safely return to land.

Deputy V.R. Weadon of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene but found that the injury was too severe to be managed on-site.

Deputy Weadon facilitated Osbourne’s transport to the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center for proper medical treatment.

The incident has highlighted the dangers of discarded fishing lines and other debris to wildlife, prompting local authorities to remind residents to keep natural habitats clean to protect local fauna.
