MATAWAN, N.J. — A Holmdel man was arrested Saturday after allegedly attempting to tear down a Pride flag at a downtown donut shop, returning later to make Nazi salutes and threats to burn the business, according to police.
The incident occurred just before noon outside Main Street Donuts, when the store’s owner told police that a man attempted to remove the Pride flag hanging in front of the store, damaging its metal bracket in the process.
Police identified the man as Maciej Wojciak of Holmdel. Authorities said Wojciak left the scene before officers arrived, but they were able to identify him using a photo of his license plate.
While police were searching for him, Wojciak reportedly returned to the donut shop and made Nazi salute gestures in the roadway, along with simulated sexual acts, officials said.
During the same incident, police said Wojciak made threats to set the business on fire.
He fled the area a second time before being located near the shop and taken into custody, police said.
Wojciak is facing multiple charges including bias intimidation, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
