JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 52-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds inside a Jersey City apartment Saturday night, and his son has since been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. on May 10 at 117-121 Wade Street. Responding officers discovered Gerard Brooker Sr., unresponsive inside a residential unit. He was pronounced dead at the scene just after 8:30 p.m., according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

As the homicide investigation unfolded, Gerard Brooker Jr., 25, also of Jersey City, was identified as a person of interest. He was taken into custody in Manhattan at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 11.

Murder charges filed after early morning arrest in Manhattan

Brooker Jr. has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. He was apprehended with assistance from the New York City Police Department.

Authorities have not released additional details about a possible motive or whether the shooting followed a domestic dispute. The case remains under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit.

All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
