ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. — Robbinsville Township police officers rescued a dog from a near-drowning incident on Saturday after responding to a 911 call about a pet in distress in a backyard pool on Sienna Court.
According to the Robbinsville Township Police Department, dispatch received the emergency call on May 10 reporting a dog actively struggling in the water. Patrolmen Slininger, Pica, and Meehan were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, Patrolman Slininger entered the pool area and successfully retrieved the dog—identified as Zissou—without incident. Officials said the animal was in visible distress and likely would not have survived without prompt intervention.
While securing the property, officers discovered a second dog also loose in the backyard. A search of the surrounding area led them to the owners, who had been looking for their missing pets after they escaped earlier in the day.
That evening, the owner visited the police station to thank the officers in person for saving Zissou’s life and ensuring both dogs were safely returned.

Police said no further medical treatment was needed for Zissou, and the dog was reunited with its owner unharmed. The department shared the account of the rescue on its Facebook page on Monday morning.
