PARK RIDGE, N.J. — A Bergen County man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly submitting false voter registration documents and mail-in ballots over a four-year period, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.
Bruce E. Behringer, 69, of Park Ridge, was taken into custody on May 27 following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit. The investigation began after the Bergen County Board of Elections flagged possible voting irregularities earlier this year.
Authorities allege that between September 2020 and November 2024, Behringer submitted one fraudulent voter registration application and three mail-in ballots in another person’s name. The actions led to charges of tampering with public records, false registration, and attempting to cast an illegal vote, all third-degree offenses under New Jersey law.
Behringer was processed and released pending his first court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
The case is being handled by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
