Delaware man arrested for 9th DUI after attempted escape in Dover

by Local News Report

DOVER, Del. — A 61-year-old Magnolia man was arrested Saturday after being stopped by Delaware State Police for a traffic violation and later charged with his ninth DUI offense.

Around 3:48 p.m. on June 21, a trooper spotted a teal 2004 Honda Odyssey traveling with its cargo hatch open, obscuring the license plate, near Walnut Shade Road and South Dupont Highway. During the traffic stop, the driver, identified as Anthony McLeish, showed multiple signs of impairment.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, after which McLeish attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended following a brief struggle. Authorities later confirmed McLeish has eight previous DUI-related convictions.

While receiving treatment for minor injuries at an area hospital, McLeish allegedly continued resisting and kicked a trooper in the face.

He was charged with felony DUI, resisting arrest with force or violence, resisting arrest, driving while revoked, and license plate display violation. He was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $43,150 cash bond.
