WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Washington Post journalist has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography following a federal investigation that uncovered graphic videos on his work laptop, officials announced Friday.

Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, of Washington, D.C., was taken into custody on June 26 after FBI agents executed a search warrant at his residence. During the search, investigators recovered electronic devices, including LeGro’s work-issued laptop, which contained a folder with 11 videos depicting child sexual abuse material, according to federal prosecutors.

LeGro is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist for the far-left newspaper.

LeGro made his initial appearance Friday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, who credited the FBI Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department for their roles in the investigation.

Fragments of hard drive found near seized laptop

During the search, agents also found what appeared to be pieces of a destroyed hard drive in the hallway outside the room where the laptop was located. Authorities have not disclosed whether those fragments contained additional evidence.

The case is being handled by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes federal and local law enforcement agencies from D.C. and Northern Virginia. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Caroline Burrell and Janani Iyengar are prosecuting the case.

The arrest is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat online child exploitation.
