TOMS RIVER, NJ – A 28-year-old woman was struck and killed by a man driving a late model Ford Explorer in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Route 70 early Sunday morning. According to Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little, the incident happened at around 2:10 am.
Officers from the Toms River Police Department arrived on the scene to find the woman lying in the roadway.
Witnesses told police the driver of the vehicle, described as a tall, thin, white male, with blonde or reddish hair, got out of the vehicle after striking the woman, looked at her, then got back into his vehicle and headed eastbound on Route 70 toward Lakewood.
“The vehicle has significant damage to the front passenger side, including an inoperable passenger side headlight and hood damage,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Bilhimer said. “
The driver is described as a tall, thin, white male with blonde or reddish hair.
First responders immediately rendered aid to the victim along with EMS/Medics, and a pulse was initially regained. She was transported to Southern Monmouth Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, Billhimer said.
