North Bethesda man shot and killed by police after charging officers with knives in DC
Washington, DC – A Maryland man was fatally shot by police in Northwest Washington Tuesday afternoon after authorities said he charged at officers while armed with two knives during a domestic disturbance call.
The incident began around 10:50 a.m. when Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 5100 block of Sherier Place NW after a report that a man had threatened to come to a home and damage vehicles.
Just after noon, while officers were speaking with the victim and completing a report, the suspect arrived at the location. Police said the man, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Boruch of North Bethesda, Maryland, was carrying two knives and advanced toward officers despite repeated commands to drop them.
An officer deployed a stun device twice, but Boruch continued charging, prompting two officers to fire their weapons. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The knives were recovered nearby. No police officers were injured during the incident. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau’s Force Investigations Team reviews the shooting.
