Maryland Powerball players rack up major wins as jackpot climbs to $1.3 billion
BALTIMORE, MD – As the Powerball jackpot surged toward $1.3 billion ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing, Maryland Lottery players cashed in big last week—led by a $500,000 win in Middle River and a $150,000 prize in Garrett County.
Eight of the state’s 24 biggest wins for the week came from Powerball tickets, reflecting the spike in play driven by the massive jackpot. The Middle River ticket, sold at Bernie’s Liquors on Martin Boulevard, was a Double Play prize—an option players can add for $1 to be entered in a second drawing held after the regular one.
In total, six additional $50,000 Powerball winners were recorded across Maryland in the week ending August 31. The winning tickets were sold at locations in College Park, Elkridge, Forestville, Gaithersburg, Severn, and Stevensville.
On top of those, the September 1 drawing—which falls outside the official weekly reporting period—produced more big winners, including a $150,000 ticket sold in Marbury at Gray’s Market and two $50,000 winners sold in Essex and Cockeysville.
The Maryland Lottery reports that since the Powerball jackpot last hit on May 31, players across the state have won 27 prizes of $50,000 or more. During the same jackpot run, Marylanders purchased $41.1 million in Powerball tickets and won a total of $10.1 million in prizes. Retailers collected $2.3 million in commissions, and the state received $10.2 million in revenue.
Across all games, the Lottery paid nearly $32 million in prizes from August 25 to 31, including 24 tickets worth $10,000 or more.

Lottery officials remind players that tickets for draw games and FAST PLAY expire 182 days after the drawing or purchase date. Prizes over $25,000 must be redeemed by appointment at the Maryland Lottery’s Baltimore headquarters.
