BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, in partnership with NYPD Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban, has announced a Gun Buyback event scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at the Beulah Church of the Nazarene in Crown Heights. The event, which will run from 10 AM to 4 PM, aims to curb gun violence by removing firearms from the streets.
Participants turning in operable guns or assault rifles at the event will receive a $500 bank card for each firearm, with a limit of three per person. Additionally, $200 bank cards will be offered for ghost guns or 3D printed guns, with a maximum of two per person. The event will also offer $75 bank cards for each rifle or shotgun and $25 for each air gun, imitation pistol, or non-operable firearm.
The buyback event will be held at 1250 Saint Johns Place, with the entrance on Troy Avenue, and requires no identification for participation, ensuring anonymity with no questions asked. The firearms must be unloaded and securely packaged, and if transported by car, they must be kept in the trunk.
District Attorney Gonzalez emphasized the success of such initiatives in reducing gun violence, stating, “Every gun that comes off of our streets can mean a life saved.” Commissioner Caban highlighted the significant progress in reducing shooting incidents across New York City, attributing part of this success to previous buyback events.
Rev. Dr. Wenton Fyne, the pastor of Beulah Church, also expressed his support for the initiative, underscoring the church’s commitment to community safety and the promotion of peace.
This event is part of a broader strategy by the District Attorney’s Office to host gun buybacks throughout the year, targeting different neighborhoods in Brooklyn to enhance public safety.
