Director of National Intelligence on Iran’s Role in U.S. Protests
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Josh Kirby recently claimed that Iran has been funding and encouraging some of the protest activity in the United States. He stated that while Iran’s involvement is acknowledged, the majority of the protests are driven by organic concerns from the American public regarding the situation in the Middle East.
According to statements made by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), there is indeed evidence that Iran has been involved in some capacity in influencing protests within the United States. In October 2020, then-DNI John Ratcliffe publicly stated that Iran, along with Russia, had obtained voter registration data and was attempting to influence public opinion ahead of the U.S. presidential election. This included sending threatening emails and spreading misinformation to undermine public confidence and stoke social tensions.
“We’ve said ourselves, the Director of National Intelligence came out publicly and said that we do know that Iran has been funding and encouraging some of the protest activity here in the United States. Some of it. We do not believe that all the protest activity out there on a daily basis is being fully funded by Iran. There’s a lot of organic concern out there in the American people about what’s going on in the Middle East, and most of these protests are formed and fashioned in that regard,” Kirby said.
However, it is crucial to note that the majority of protests occurring in the United States, especially those related to social justice and international concerns, are largely driven by genuine and widespread public sentiment. Americans have been actively voicing their opinions on various issues, from racial inequality to foreign policy matters, independent of any foreign influence. There is also some level of brainwashing and influence by the media, left-wing politicians and domestic radicals influecing this movement.
The Director of National Intelligence’s statements confirm some level of foreign influence, but they also affirm that most protests are a reflection of genuine domestic concerns.
