Unplanned detour nets baltimore county woman $50k lottery prize

BALTIMORE, MD – A Parkville woman credits a change in her routine for her recent $50,000 win in the Maryland Lottery’s Aug. 3 Bonus Match 5 drawing. The lucky winner, a self-described “frequent” player, enjoys the entire process of purchasing Lottery tickets, from selecting the store to choosing the game and numbers.

Typically a fan of scratch-offs and Bonus Match 5 tickets, the school system employee follows a regular routine of visiting four different stores. However, on Aug. 3, she decided to visit Speedy Convenience at 7101 Darlington Drive in Baltimore, a departure from her usual stops.

While there, she was in the mood to play scratch-offs and bought a few instant tickets. As she was about to leave, she noticed two dollar bills in her purse and decided to purchase a $2 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket for that night’s drawing. “It really came down to those two split-second decisions. It’s crazy,” she said.

With her $50,000 top prize, she plans to pay off some bills and is open to new ideas for fun. Speedy Convenience will also receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
