NEWARK, N.J. — Newark authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a shooting that left four people injured on September 2, 2024. The Newark Department of Public Safety released details of the incident and provided a description of the suspect, who was seen driving stolen vehicles before the shooting.
At approximately 11:02 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Clinton Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found three victims—a woman and two men—who had been shot. All three were transported to University Hospital, where they were treated and reported to be in stable condition. A fourth victim, a man, also arrived at University Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds from the same location. He is also in stable condition.
The suspect, captured in images on social media, was seen exiting a stolen blue Honda Accord and attempting to pull the door handle of a parked vehicle. The Honda Accord had been reported stolen in Newark on August 30. The suspect then stole a white 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA, which was used in the shooting. The Mercedes, reported stolen from East Orange on the day of the shooting, was later found burned on Stecher Street near Lyons Avenue in Newark. Newark firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The suspect is described as having a heavy-set build and was last seen wearing a black ski mask, a dark-colored baseball cap, a hooded sweatshirt with a light-colored shirt underneath, dark-colored sweatpants, dark-colored gloves, and gray New Balance sneakers. No description is currently available for the vehicle’s passenger.
Detectives are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact Newark police.
