St. Mary’s County bingo lover’s second glance reveals $50K scratch-off prize

CALIFORNIA, Md. — A St. Mary’s County resident struck it big with the Maryland Lottery, winning a $50,000 top prize on a Gold Bar Bingo 5th Edition scratch-off.

The lucky winner, a fan of bingo-themed games, picked up the $5 scratch-off ticket after work in California, Maryland, and later discovered the prize at home. She nearly missed the life-changing win, initially putting down the ticket before a second look revealed the $50,000 prize symbol—a winning “X” on the sixth bingo card.

“I didn’t believe it,” she said while claiming her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Her niece, who helped confirm the win by scanning the ticket, accompanied her to celebrate the big moment.

The winner, still in disbelief, plans to use her windfall for a vacation and to make the holidays extra special. The ticket was purchased at Wildewood Wine & Spirits on Three Notch Road, which will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The Gold Bar Bingo 5th Edition game, launched in July, still has four remaining top prizes of $50,000, along with other prizes ranging from $5 to $10,000.
