MOONACHIE, NJ – In a distressing development for the Moonachie community, 25-year-old Andrew Salamone has been arrested on serious allegations involving the sexual assault of minors. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella made the announcement following an investigation spearheaded by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Moonachie Police Department.
The investigation commenced after a report was received by the Moonachie Police Department on November 22, 2024, concerning historical sexual assaults. The allegations pointed towards Salamone, who had allegedly assaulted two juveniles multiple times when they were under sixteen years old.
The collaborative effort between the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under Chief Matthew Finck, and the Moonachie Police Department, led by Chief Richard Behrens, culminated in Salamone’s arrest on the same day in Paramus, NJ. The charges levied against him include:
- Two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault under N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1), which involves the assault of a victim under 13 years old.
- One count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault under N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(2).
- Three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child under N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, reflecting the harm or risk of harm to the psychological or physical well-being of a child.
Salamone was immediately taken into custody and is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail. He awaits his first court appearance in the Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ, where the legal proceedings against him will commence.
