JACKSON, N.J. — The Jackson Pathfinders, a volunteer group dedicated to maintaining and enjoying the natural beauty of Jackson’s trails, is marking its 25th year in 2024. Open to all, the Pathfinders charge no fees or dues, relying solely on the enthusiasm and interest of its members.

The group, which began in 1999, offers free and public access to trails for nature appreciation, hiking, and mountain biking. Detailed trail maps, including interactive Google maps and downloadable PDFs, are available on the Pathfinders’ website, providing users with easy access to explore the area’s rich natural resources.

The next event hosted by the Pathfinders will take place on Saturday, December 7, with an easy-paced walk on the Pine Acres Trail at the New Jersey Forest Resource Education Center (FREC). The event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and participants are encouraged to register in advance by contacting event leader Karen Walzer via email by Friday, December 6.

Participants are reminded to dress for the weather, wear bright clothing for visibility during hunting season, and bring essentials such as gloves, water, and a charged cell phone. Those attending must also complete a Waiver and Release form, required by Jackson Township, and meet promptly at 1 p.m. in the FREC parking lot at 495 Don Connor Boulevard.

In addition to its trail events, the Jackson Pathfinders will hold their annual holiday meeting on Thursday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson Township municipal building. Volunteers and attendees will gather to reflect on the group’s accomplishments over the past year and share holiday treats.

Known for their work maintaining trails, building bridges, and partnering with scouts and community groups, the Pathfinders aim to preserve Jackson’s natural beauty and make it accessible for all to enjoy.
