FREDERICK, MD — The Frederick Police Department has recognized 20 officers for their decisive actions in responding to a shooting on Heather Ridge Drive on August 16, highlighting their teamwork, bravery, and professionalism during a chaotic and rapidly evolving incident.
The officers secured multiple scenes, provided life-saving aid to the victim, and apprehended the suspect, all while preserving evidence critical to the case, according to department officials. Their efforts exemplified the department’s commitment to public safety under challenging circumstances.
Among those honored, K9 Corporal Sheena Gozdziewski received a Bronze Star for her role in stopping the suspect’s vehicle. Her actions led to the recovery of a firearm and the suspect’s swift arrest.
Command Staff also commended Sergeants, Corporals, and Officers involved, including Sgt. Gunder, Cpl. Deatrich, and a team of Master Police Officers (MPOs) and officers who worked in unison to ensure the safety of the community and strengthen the investigation.
“These officers didn’t just respond—they owned the moment,” the department wrote in a Facebook post. “We’re proud to call you part of the Frederick Police Department.”
The commendations underscore the importance of professionalism and coordination in critical moments of public safety.
