WALL TOWNSHIP-Dangerous algae blooms are spreading across New Jersey lakes, as reported here two weeks ago, but now that bloom has made the Manasquan reservoir unsafe for both humans and pets.
Health officials have confirmed that the harmful algal bloom is present in Monmouth County’s largest source of drinking water. Those quantities, according to the New Jersey Advisory Guidance are above acceptable levels.
For now, the county has suspended all water sports, swimming wading and have told residents not to drink, or even have contact with water in the reservoir. Fish caught in the reservoir should not be eaten. Pets and livestock are highly advised to stay away from the water.
