BALTIMORE, MD — A woman is dead and a child injured following a police-involved collision in Prince George’s County Friday night, prompting an investigation by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID).

According to preliminary findings, the deadly chain of events began around 7:30 p.m. on March 21 when an officer with the Seat Pleasant Police Department (SPPD) attempted a traffic stop on a Genesis sedan in the 6300 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway. Though the driver initially stopped, they soon fled the scene, leading the officer to issue a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert to nearby law enforcement.
Shortly thereafter, Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) officers located the same vehicle at a gas station in the 6700 block of the highway. Officers activated their lights and sirens, initiating a pursuit when the driver again refused to stop.
The brief pursuit ended in tragedy at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway and Belle Haven Drive in Landover, where the fleeing Genesis collided with a Nissan SUV carrying an adult woman and a juvenile passenger.
The woman was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The child was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Genesis was also transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
No officers were injured in the incident. Officials confirmed that both body-worn and dash camera footage from the pursuit is available and will be reviewed as part of the IID’s ongoing investigation.
