CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — A Virginia locksmith walked into a Maryland riverside restaurant for his weekly Racetrax routine and walked out a $30,734 winner.
The lucky player from Spotsylvania claimed his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on April 18 after hitting it big with a Racetrax Trifecta ticket purchased on April 6 at Tim’s II at Fairview, a restaurant perched partly on the Potomac River and officially located in Charles County.
The man, joined by his wife, played his favorite horses — numbers 10, 11, and 12 — for seven consecutive races. While the games ran on-screen, the couple was briefly distracted as Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored his record-breaking 895th career goal.
By the time he turned back to the Racetrax screen, the second race on his ticket had already delivered a major win.
The couple, longtime regulars at the restaurant, were congratulated by fellow patrons and the restaurant owner. They later locked the winning ticket in a safe and made plans to deposit the prize into savings.
Restaurant shares in the win
Tim’s II at Fairview, located at 5411 Pavillion Drive, will receive a $307.34 bonus for selling a Racetrax ticket worth over $10,000 — equal to 1% of the total prize amount.
