NEW JERSEY — Authorities are warning residents to avoid open burning on Friday, April 25, due to an elevated risk for the rapid spread of wildfires across New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.
Dry conditions, combined with low humidity (25–35%) and gusty winds up to 20 mph, create dangerous fire-spread potential. High temperatures reaching the upper 70s to low 80s will further exacerbate conditions.

Bonfire permits required ahead of Lag Ba’Omer
With Lag Ba’Omer approaching, the Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr, and the Ocean County Fire Marshal are reminding the public that bonfires require permits. Applications must be typed, submitted at least 10 business days before the event, and include a $54 fee.
Permits can be downloaded from www.oceancountyfiremarshal.com and must be submitted by May 14 at 4:30 p.m.
Permit holders must follow strict safety guidelines including providing accurate ignition times, having fire suppression equipment on-site, and ensuring bonfires are kept at safe distances from buildings, vehicles, and flammable materials.
Non-compliance may result in permit revocation
Bonfires may not exceed 5’ x 5’ x 5’ and ignition is only allowed after on-site inspection and approval by a Fire Marshal. Failure to comply, including starting fires without a permit or approval, will result in extinguishment and possible penalties.
