Porch pirate strikes Newark home in daylight delivery theft

Package thief caught on camera stealing delivery in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are searching for a man caught on surveillance video stealing a package from the front steps of a Newark home on Monday morning.

The theft occurred around 10 a.m. on May 19 in the 80 block of West End Avenue. The suspect walked up to the residence, took the delivered package — which contained clothing — and fled southbound on West End Avenue.

The man is described as a Black male with a slim build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, red sweatpants, a black jacket, and red sneakers with white laces. The theft was clearly captured on home security footage.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking for the public’s help identifying the individual. Investigators are reviewing the video and encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
