LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Lakewood Township and the Lakewood Police Department have launched an enhanced emergency alert system aimed at keeping residents informed of real-time traffic disruptions, weather events, and public safety notifications.

Residents can receive immediate updates by texting “LPDNJ” to 67283. The free service delivers alerts around the clock and is intended to help the public avoid unexpected delays and stay safe during emergencies. Standard message and data rates may apply.

“Residents constantly reach out to us, asking to be informed about road closures, detours, and other important information before they become stuck,” said Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles. “Thankfully we do have such a system set up and greatly encourage the public to take advantage of it.”

Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein, who serves as the Township’s Emergency Services Liaison, also thanked the Lakewood Police Department and township officials for developing and maintaining the system. “They are constantly working to update it and make it as user friendly as can be,” he said.

Residents may also subscribe online by visiting lakewoodpolicenj.com/notify and setting up an account, which allows them to customize the types of alerts they receive or opt for voice calls instead of text messages.

Township officials say additional updates to the system are in development to improve functionality and coverage.
