Car crashes into concrete pillar at Wilkes-Barre Public Square, three hospitalized

WILKES-BARRE, PA — Three people were injured early Tuesday after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete pillar at Public Square, police said.

Officers responded around 2:22 a.m. to the area of Public Square and North Main Street, where they found a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan that had gone off the road and collided with the pillar.

The driver, a 26-year-old woman from Berwick, along with a 27-year-old passenger from Wilkes-Barre and a 21-year-old passenger from Plymouth, were treated at the scene by EMS before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

Members of the Wilkes-Barre Accident Reconstruction Unit arrived later and are continuing to investigate the crash.
