Coram woman sentenced to 7 years for running over woman after parking lot fight

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. — A Coram woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison for attempting to kill a 63-year-old woman by intentionally running her over with a minivan following a confrontation in a Bellport parking lot, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.

Philomena Mistretta, 51, pleaded guilty in June to attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, and assault in the second degree, all stemming from an October 2024 incident at Miracle Plaza off Montauk Highway.

According to prosecutors, at approximately 3:30 a.m. on October 26, Mistretta was sitting in her 2004 white Toyota Sienna when she began arguing with the victim, who was standing next to the passenger side of the vehicle. The argument escalated into a physical altercation after Mistretta exited the vehicle.

After the scuffle, Mistretta returned to the driver’s seat, reversed the van, turned it toward the victim, and drove into her, dragging the woman a short distance. The victim sustained lacerations to her skull and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital. Mistretta was arrested at the scene by Suffolk County Police.

“She made a conscious choice to harm another person, and today’s sentence reflects the gravity of that decision,” District Attorney Tierney said in a statement.

Mistretta was sentenced on July 22 to seven years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. She was represented by attorney Chase Brown.
