Off-duty NYPD officer arrested in Brooklyn for assault and menacing

An NYPD officer was arrested Thursday in Brooklyn on charges of assault and menacing while off duty.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — An off-duty NYPD police officer was arrested Thursday evening in Brooklyn and charged with assault and menacing, police said.

Sharon Holmes, 40, was taken into custody at approximately 5:50 p.m. within the confines of the 70th Precinct, which covers neighborhoods including Flatbush and Midwood. Holmes is a uniformed member of the New York City Police Department.

Authorities did not release additional details about the incident leading to her arrest, and it remains unclear whether the charges stem from an on- or off-duty altercation. The department said the incident is under internal review.

Holmes faces charges of assault and menacing.
