Pickup truck sought after fatal Southeast motorcycle crash leaves one dead

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A deadly crash at a Southeast DC intersection left a motorcyclist dead after colliding with a pickup truck that fled the scene.

The collision happened around 2:07 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at 51st Street and Southern Avenue. First responders found 50-year-old Billy Earl Canty of Southwest unresponsive in the roadway. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Canty was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Southern Avenue when it struck a black and gray 2003 Ford F-150. The truck had begun a left turn from 51st Street, stopped mid-turn, and was hit by the motorcycle. The driver fled before officers arrived.

The pickup truck bears Virginia license plate THP-6421. Photos and video of the truck and persons of interest have been released.
