Wilkes-Barre, PA – A man was found bleeding outside an apartment building in the early morning hours Friday in what police are investigating as a violent assault.

Medics were already on scene loading the injured man onto a stretcher when officers arrived just after 5:30 a.m. on North Washington Street.

Officers noted visible blood on the building’s outside steps and signs of a physical struggle nearby.

The victim, identified only as a Black male, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, though the extent of those injuries has not been released. Investigators from the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department were joined by the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Services Unit to process the scene and gather evidence.

Police have not released details about what led up to the assault, and no suspects have been identified or taken into custody as of Friday afternoon. The investigation remains open and active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Wilkes-Barre City detectives.

The apartment building at 685 North Washington Street remained an active scene throughout the morning, with forensic personnel documenting blood evidence and other indicators of a struggle on the property’s front entrance.

Officials have not confirmed whether the victim lived in the building or was attacked at another location before collapsing on the steps.

The department has not commented on whether they believe the assault was targeted or random.
