Two $1 million Powerball tickets sold in Pennsylvania as jackpot surges to $1.3 billion
MIDDLETOWN, PA – Two lucky Powerball® players in Pennsylvania each won $1 million over the weekend, just as the national jackpot swelled to a staggering $1.3 billion ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing, ranking among the largest in Powerball® history.
The first winning ticket was sold on Saturday at the Turkey Hill located at 2101 New Danville Pike in Pequea Township, Lancaster County. That ticket matched all five of the white balls drawn—3, 18, 22, 27, 33—but missed the red Powerball number 17, earning the holder a $1 million prize.
Two days later, another $1 million ticket was sold at the ACME Markets store at 121 East City Avenue in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County. That ticket also matched all five white balls—8, 23, 25, 40, 53—but not the Powerball number 5.
Both retailers will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning tickets. The winners have not yet come forward, as Pennsylvania Lottery prizes must be claimed and tickets validated before winners are officially known.
The Powerball® jackpot has been growing since May 31, when a single ticket in California won $204.5 million. The current estimated jackpot of $1.3 billion—with a cash option of $589 million—would be the fifth-largest Powerball® prize and ninth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot if hit.
The Pennsylvania Lottery reports that the current jackpot run has generated over $89 million in sales statewide, producing more than $35 million in profits that go toward programs supporting older Pennsylvanians.
In addition to the two million-dollar winners, more than 473,000 other Powerball® tickets sold in Pennsylvania won prizes during the Saturday and Monday drawings. This includes over 98,900 tickets purchased with Power Play® and more than 46,500 with Double Play®.
Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes. Tickets purchased at retail locations should be signed immediately. Players who bought online will see winnings automatically credited to their accounts once the claim is processed.
