Jersey City man breaks into Wilkes-Barre home, punches woman before arrest

WILKES-BARRE, PA – A 46-year-old man from New Jersey was taken into custody late Wednesday night after allegedly forcing his way into a Wilkes-Barre home and striking a woman during a domestic dispute.

The incident unfolded around 11:05 p.m. on East Market Street when officers responded to a reported disturbance. Police said the suspect, identified as Melvin Leak of Jersey City, demanded entry into the residence of a 37-year-old woman.

When she refused, Leak allegedly breached the main entry door and attacked the woman, striking her in the face with a closed fist, according to investigators.

Leak was arrested at the scene and transported to Wilkes-Barre City Police headquarters for processing and arraignment. The victim’s injuries were not disclosed.

No additional information about possible charges has been released.
