Man shot by ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend during custody exchange at Philadelphia intersection

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A custody exchange turned violent late Sunday night when a man was shot during a confrontation in Northeast Philadelphia.

Police say the shooting happened around 10:32 p.m. near Bleigh and Whitaker Avenues.

A 29-year-old man was found with facial injuries and a gunshot wound to his left leg.

He was taken by medics to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Investigators said the man was exchanging custody of his son with his ex-girlfriend when a dispute erupted with her current boyfriend. During the argument, the boyfriend allegedly hit the victim several times in the face with a handgun before firing a single round into his leg.

The suspect fled the scene with the woman after the shooting, according to police. The Shooting Investigation Group continues to examine the case and has not yet announced any arrests or identified the shooter.

The exchange ended in violence just steps from a quiet residential block where children often play.
