Philadelphia, PA – Two Philadelphia parents are facing multiple felony charges after investigators allege their 7-week-old daughter suffered serious injuries and was removed from a hospital before medical staff completed her evaluation.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers assigned to the 18th District responded to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) at approximately 6:34 a.m. Saturday for a report of a prior assault involving the infant.
Police said the baby had initially been taken by her parents to Jefferson Hospital before being transferred to CHOP for additional treatment. During the evaluation, medical personnel discovered multiple serious injuries.
Investigators said the parents left the hospital with the infant before the medical examination was complete and before they received the results.
Parents arrested following investigation
Authorities identified the parents as Secret McCleve-Sar, 21, and Tyrone Jones, 22, both of the 2500 block of North Front Street.
Following an investigation by the Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit, both were taken into custody Sunday.
The pair have each been charged with:
- Aggravated assault
- Kidnapping
- Criminal conspiracy
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Simple assault
- Recklessly endangering another person
- Obstructing justice
Infant remains hospitalized
Police said the infant was returned to CHOP, where she remains hospitalized receiving treatment for her injuries.
Authorities have not released details about the nature or extent of the child’s injuries or commented on her current condition.
The Philadelphia Police Department said the investigation by the Special Victims Unit remains ongoing.
