UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. — A Bergen County man has been charged after investigators alleged he fired shots that struck an occupied home in a quiet residential neighborhood, prompting a large law enforcement response and a search of his property that uncovered multiple firearms and ammunition.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, officers from the Upper Saddle River Police Department responded at approximately 12 p.m. Friday to reports of possible gunfire at a home on Hidden Glen Road.
When officers arrived, they determined that shots had been fired into the occupied residence. No one inside the home was struck, and no injuries were reported.
Investigation led detectives to neighboring property
Because of the nature of the incident, members of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and the Saddle River Police Department responded to assist before investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office assumed the joint investigation.
During the preliminary investigation, detectives interviewed Michael L. Norcia, 60, of Upper Saddle River, whose home on nearby Mill Glen Court backs up to Hidden Glen Road.
According to prosecutors, detectives determined “the shots emanated from the area of Mill Glen Court,” and that “the established trajectory for the path of one of the bullets was consistent with a direction originating from the area of NORCIA’S property on Mill Glen Court.”
Search warrant led to firearm seizure
Later that evening, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant at Norcia’s residence.
During the search, investigators recovered firearms and ammunition from the home, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Norcia was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree endangering another person.
He was lodged in the Bergen County Jail pending further proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active, including the examination of the firearms recovered during the search. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Tips Line at (201) 226-5532.
The charges against Norcia are accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
