LANCASTER, Pa. — A York County teenager accused of participating in the armed robbery of an AR-15-style rifle during a planned firearm sale in Lancaster will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, 15-year-old Wyatt Allen-McKinney, of Red Lion Borough, waived his hearing before Judge Andrew LeFever on July 10.
Allen-McKinney faces charges including robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, simple assault, carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possession of a firearm by a minor, and possession of an instrument of crime.
Investigators say victim was robbed during arranged gun sale
Authorities allege the robbery occurred on the morning of April 6 in a parking lot in the 100 block of East Lemon Street, where the victim had arranged to sell an AR-15-style rifle.
According to investigators, the victim told police he met Allen-McKinney and co-defendant Anthony Marin Gonzalez at approximately 8 a.m. to complete the transaction.
Police allege that “Gonzales produced a handgun with an extended magazine and demanded that the victim surrender the rifle.”
Investigators said surveillance footage from the Lancaster Safety Coalition allegedly showed Allen-McKinney and Gonzalez leaving the area in a vehicle following the robbery.
Detectives identified Allen-McKinney after tracing the vehicle’s license plate to his mother. Authorities also said cellphone location data “purports to show that he was in the area of the robbery at the time it was committed.”
Co-defendant remains at large
According to prosecutors, neither Allen-McKinney nor Gonzalez possessed permits to carry firearms, and as juveniles, neither was legally permitted to carry a firearm.
Allen-McKinney remains detained at the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Gonzalez has not been apprehended and remains wanted.
The case was investigated by Lancaster City Bureau of Police Detective Shane Douglas-Snyder. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Harbaugh is prosecuting the case.
The charges are allegations, and Allen-McKinney is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
